Chapter eleven Cole
As I drove over to Rhysâs and Addieâs I felt like I could take on the world, I was so hyped. I knew El agreeing to stay for the week was a long way from what I had really wanted, for her to move in permanently. This was a start though, a step in the right direction. How I played this week would make or break us. Starting tomorrow with the trip into town, I would have to curb myself, not go over the top and spoil Jake and Brandon like I really wanted to do. I needed El to see that I had control and that I would not let the boys walk all over me. I really had to stop and think, over the next week before I acted. One wrong move would send El running back to Fairview and with her would go my chance of us ever becoming a real family.
Pulling up in front of Addieâs and Rhysâs I was glad to see that the lounge room light was still on. They were both still up, no doubt waiting for El to come back. Getting out of the car I was practically skipping up the path to the front door. I just couldnât wait to tell them that El had agreed to stay for the whole week. Maybe if I was lucky, we could all end up at the beach together. Addie and Rhys had planned to go this weekend but had to cancel it due to El coming back. If I could talk El into going next weekend, it would be the perfect ending to their stay with me.
âHello,â I sang out as I opened the front door. Rhys came thundering out of the lounge at the sound of my voice. He did not look happy.
âWhat time do you call this?â I tried not to laugh as he stood there pointing at a watch on his wrist that did not exist. He reminded me of my Dad and all the times I had been late coming home as a teenager, as he stood there with his hands on his hips ready to tear into me.
âSorry, Dad, change of plans. You have got your house back. El is staying with me.â I walked past him into the lounge, where Addie was curled up on the couch watching TV.
âAnyone would think he was the one that got up at the crack of dawn with our daughter and not me.â She stretched out and offered me a smile before sitting up.
âYou could have called,â Rhys said walking in behind me.
âSorry, I had to come anyway to get their things.â
âYou could not have picked them up in the morning?â
âYou are such a downer Rhys. I want them unpacked as soon as possible. It will give El less of a chance at changing her mind.â I sat down on the chair opposite Addie and from the scowl on her face I knew I had said something wrong.
âWhy would
